LOCAL Anglican deacon, Andrew Eaton, will be ordained a priest this Friday.
Reverend Eaton, soon to be Father Eaton, has completed 12 months as a deacon at Christ Church in Daylesford performing weddings, funerals, a blessing of the animals ceremony and much more.
Rector of Castlemaine and Daylesford, Ken Parker, said Reverend Eaton had worked with him across both communities.
"The chief difference in being ordained means he's now able to celebrate the eucharist, which he hasn't been able to do so far," Father Parker said.
"This will give him a much stronger sense of leadership within the community."
Reverend Eaton was nominated by the Board of Ministry and Father Parker to be ordained.
"This will be a grand occasion, with the Bishop of Bendigo, Andrew Curnow and between 30 and 50 priests present," Father Parker said.
"The place will be full to overflowing.
"The bishop quizzes the new priest in front of the congregation, which is a challenging thing.
"Then Andrew kneels down and all the priests and bishop lay their hands on him as if giving their blessing.
"There is a real sense of the authority being passed on."
Parishioners from the Daylesford, Hepburn Springs and Glenlyon Anglican Churches will be there to support their new priest.
Father Parker said all were welcome to the service and he recommended people get there early.
The ordainment will take place this Friday at the Anglican Church, Central Springs Road, Daylesford, at 7.30pm.
A light supper will be served afterwards in Stanbridge Hall.
