A COMMUNITY celebration was held at the newly upgraded Daylesford Community Park last Friday to mark the completion of stage two of the project.
The upgrade included the installation of a new playground, toilet block, walking path and car parks at the site on the corner of Duke and Stanbridge streets, Daylesford.
Hepburn Shire mayor Sebastian Klein thanked the Community Reference Group made up of parents and community members, for their tireless work in getting this project completed .
"This project started in 1999 with a skate park and has evolved through the years with extensive community consultation," Cr Klein said.
"The master plan was finalised in 2009, and in close collaboration with the Community Reference Group we debated and determined the playground design in September last year.
"This is a fantastic community park. It has been designed with an 'all access' focus, which means from car parks to equipment, this will truly be a public space to be enjoyed by all."
"It is so great to see a project that has been needed by the community so much for over a decade, and was finally approved by councillors in 2009, come to fruition and become a tangible, instant success with young and old alike.
"It really will be a gift for the youth of Hepburn Shire for generations to come."
Council has designated the park as the location for Hepburn's Bushfire memorial, for which council has received funding from the state government.
"We're inviting expressions of interest for the design and creation of a memorial for the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires; we'll provide more details next week," Cr Klein said.
