Daylesford Brass Band returns to South Street stage after 10 years

04 Oct, 2006 02:21 PM
FOR the first time in 10 years the Daylesford Brass Band will compete at the Royal South Street Society Competitions this year.

The band will contest the Victorian Brass Band Championships at the eisteddfod on Sunday, October 15, in Ballarat.

Daylesford Brass Band president John Clark said the band would open the championships at 10am.

He said it was a bonus to be first on stage.

"Then we can relax and watch the other bands," he said.

Each band in the championships is required to play the set test piece Pacific Dreams by Jacob de Haan, plus a hymn, a march and a concert item of their own choice.

The Daylesford Band will be playing the hymn Blaenwern and Barnard Castle for its march. The concert item is Granada Overture.

The band will also play at the Masonic Hall, Vincent St, Daylesford, on Sunday, October 8, at 2.30pm.

The performance will be the culmination of a half-day workshop, where members of the band will fine-tune their program in preparation for the championships.

Mr Clark said the band members were looking forward to the challenge of once again competing in the state championships.
