Cr invites MLC to `see for himself'

30 Oct, 2007 09:29 AM
A HEPBURN Shire councillor wants MLC Peter Kavanagh to to take a closer look and see first hand how the council is operating.

Cameron Ward councillor Tim Hayes said at a meeting in Bullarto that the council was providing good governance to its ratepayers.

"I feel compelled to comment on the recent remarks in state parliament by Peter Kavanagh," Cr Hayes said.

"Where he got his information from one can only surmise, but it's a pity that he didn't check his facts before speaking under parliamentary privilege."

Cr Hayes was referring to comments Western Victoria MLC Mr Kavanagh made in parliament calling on local government minister Richard Wynne to investigate the council, labelling it as dysfunctional.

"Had he done so, he would soon realise that far from being locked into conflict and dysfunctional, this council is focussed on providing good governance and and will not be distracted by comments, being fuelled by the media,

of a few disaffected antagonists," Cr Hayes said.

"I ask the chief executive officer (Victor Swzed) to extend an invitation to Mr Kavanagh to visit Clunes, Creswick and other small towns of the Hepburn Shire so that he can see first hand the work that is being undertaken, not

only by this council, but the many hundreds of residents and volunteers," he said.
