Ceremony honours women's roles

12 Mar, 2008 10:37 AM
SIX Hepburn Shire women were inducted to the Hepburn Shire's Women's Honour Roll at a function at Daylesford Primary School on Friday night.

There was standing room only in the primary school's gymnasium as Mary Walsh, Marjorie White and Patricia Tinetti were inducted as women who have contributed to the community.

Posthumous inductees were Susan Ginghams, Deaconess Georgina Harvey and Elizabeth Sewell.

Three of the women received their awards and spoke about the honour they felt at having their work recognised.

Relatives and friends spoke on behalf of the three posthumous inductees.

The council holds an annual civic function to celebrate International Women's Day. The honour roll was launched in 2005.

Historian and Aboriginal rights activist Marilyn Lake was guest speaker.
