Call for swimmers to get behind Daylesford swimming pool proposal

30 Sep, 2008 11:50 AM
DAYLESFORD Pool may be opened from 7am for lap swimming - but needs commitment from swimmers first.

Resident Lisa Brophy said a meeting about the pool's future use, held last Wednesday at the Daylesford Town Hall, had been "very productive".

"A number of residents had indicated they would like to make swimming a part of their fitness campaign over summer - swimming laps and in the morning before work," she said.

"If you swim when there are lots of kids in the pool they tend to jump in the lanes, which is what kids do.

"Up until now the opening hours of the pool have not worked for us.

"The YMCA and the council are willing to consider opening the pool three days a week from 7am to 9am.

"(But) in order for it to work financially they need a commitment from at least 10 people at each session."

Ms Brophy said the group needed to hear from at least 30 people to make the proposal work.

"(Even) if we get 20 on Monday and five on the other days that might work," she said.

"The finer details need to be worked out but we need to make some commitment before we make a submission."

Meanwhile, the diving board at the pool will be replaced in time for this season's swimmers. The board was removed last summer for refurbishment.
