A HEPBURN Shire Council report is proposing a Leadership Transition Committee be formed to help recruit a new chief executive officer.
The appointment is needed to fill former CEO Victor Szwed's position after his recent resignation.
In a report to the council, acting CEO Phil Shanahan said the committee would be appointed to help the council with the leadership process and recruit a new CEO.
The committee would also review the CEO's performance according to the Local Government Act.
Mr Shanahan said he believed the council should proceed immediately with the recruitment process.
He said this would mean a new CEO would begin in September to comply with the Local Government Act, which limits an acting CEO appointment to one year.
Under the CEO recruitment process, Mr Shanahan will conduct a series of workshops this month to build a profile of the kind of CEO the shire is looking for.
The profile would describe the skills, competencies and personal attributes needed to address the challenges the shire will face over the next five years.
In May, the position will be advertised, with interviews to be conducted in June.
After background and reference checks on the preferred applicant Mr Shanahan would report his findings to the Leadership Transition Committee, whose role would be to make a final decision about the preferred applicant.
