THE Daylesford and District Business Group was officially launched last week.
About 30 people decided on the name following growing interest for the establishment of a chamber of commerce-like group.
After just three meetings, the new group already has strong, clear views about the future of the town and will give businesses, professional services and tourist operators a voice.
Group organisers Lisa Brophy, Allan Meers and Jane Penberthy felt there was a need for people to get together and share professional business knowledge.
Ms Penberthy said a clear majority voted on the new group name because people wanted to include businesses from the outskirts of town.
"It's really quite a local group," Ms Penberthy said.
"It's not just a network - we want to learn something and have a voice."
Representing a wide cross-section of business interests, the Daylesford and District Business Group will meet once a month.
Meetings will include a practical training component, socialising and discussions.
"This group can provide something for everyone," Ms Penberthy said.
Some issues on the agenda already include water and beautifying the main street.
"It has direction and momentum because there is a pull from the community," Ms Penberthy said.
"It has formed quickly because there needs to be a single voice for the council."
Ms Penberthy said Hepburn Shire Council had been very responsive towards the group which will form a committee next year.
The Daylesford and District Business Group will hold a festive season function at Sault on Thursday, December 14. Inquiries: Jane Penberthy 5348 2908 or Karen Ratcliffe 0409 233 376.
