 Business gets a voice

Business gets a voice

24 Apr, 2007 10:01 AM
THE local business community has been given a voice, thanks to the Daylesford and District Business Group.

The group, which became an official incorporated association last month, has been given the power to create memberships, accept and apply for grants and be a true voice for businesses.

Committee members have also been elected and include Tracey O'Neill, Lisa Brophy, Robert Fookes, Les Morrow, Jane Penberthy and Sarah Taylor.

Ms Penberthy said the group aimed to provide all businesses with a forum and networking opportunities, a platform for members to build partnerships to enable growth and an opportunity to take issues to council and government.

Ms O'Neill said people who had been attending the group's meetings had already grasped the opportunities available.

With about 50 members already, the group includes a broad range of businesses from retail and hospitality to tradespeople.

Ms Penberthy said some of the issues the group were tackling included beautifying Vincent St, buying locally, the location of the Farmers Market, funding and grants, business planning and tax minimisation.

Meetings will include a guest speaker and provide a regular opportunity for businesses to showcase themselves.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, May 17, at 5.30pm.

Ms Brophy, from Genesys Wealth Advisers, will speak on end of year financial opportunities.

A meeting will then be held on the second Thursday of each month at 5.30pm for a 6pm start. The venue is to be confirmed.
