Boost for shire's brigades

12 Dec, 2006 10:52 AM
A NEW transportable radio will help firefighters in the Hepburn Shire manage fire ground traffic.

The Glenlyon Group transportable radio and scanner was bought with $2800 donated by the ChillOut committee.

Glenlyon Group officer Gerald Coffey said the radio was an asset to the brigades.

"It can be put into any car," he said. "We need two radios."

Mr Coffey said the radio would help firefighters communicate across Victoria.

"(The scanner and radio) help us improve our communications," he said. "We are exceptionally grateful for the ChillOut committee."

Mr Coffey said radios came out in the early 1960s following their use in World War II.

The Rotary Club of Daylesford also donated $12,500 to help the group buy a group car. Volunteers run the area's fire brigades.
