Book launch twenty years in the making

21 Dec, 2005 04:40 PM
SPA Country's Swiss Italian story, Bullboar, Macaroni and Mineral Water, was launched at the Pantechnicon Gallery on Saturday, December 17.

The 120-page book is full of photos and names, and tells the story of the Swiss Italian settlers from the 1850s.

Museum curator and author Clare Gervasoni said the Swiss Italian story was fantastic to get out.

"I really love the Swiss Italian story," Ms Gervasoni said.

Ms Gervasoni said it took 20 years of research to publish the book.

"I had help from the descendants who offered photos," she said.

The book has more than 800 names in it, including publicans. It also contains a list of baptisms.

The Swiss Italian Festa's descendants committee convenor Graham Hudson-Righetti said the book was designed to be an accessible reference book for the public.

"It's an easy read that tells a story of the Spa Country Swiss Italians," Mr Hudson-Righetti said.

"It was made possible through funding from the Victorian Multicultural Commission and Hepburn Shire Council."

Mr Hudson-Righetti said the book was an initiative of the Hepburn Springs visitor centre.

There were 1000 copies printed.

Copies are available for $25 from the Daylesford Information Centre, Lavandula, the Daylesford Museum and the Avant Garden Bookshop.
