All ready for Daylesford Show

22 Nov, 2005 10:23 AM
VISITORS to this year's Daylesford and District Agricultural Society show will set foot on the "prettiest showground in the state" this Saturday.

Thousands of people are expected to flock to Victoria Park for the 133rd show, which will feature nine breeds of sheep, one of the biggest dog shows in the state with about 900 entries, 392 sections in the pavilion, horse events,

a vintage and tractor display, children's rides, school displays and food stalls.

There will also be a grand parade featuring the showgirl and showboy, the rural ambulance award and the junior ambassador award.

The ladies committee will cater for lunch and drinks.

Daylesford and District Agricultural Society president Ron Barron, who has been associated with the show for 52 years, said the dog show drew the most interest.

"There are all dogs you can think of," he said.

He said the showground was known to be the prettiest in Victoria.

"It is the best showground in the state," he said.

"It has great surrounds."

Mr Barron can remember when a farmer from Clunes would bring a truck load of 80 sheep to the show in the 1960s.

"There was also a full semi-load of cattle from Colac," he said.

"These days are gone but there is still the same amount of effort put into the show."

Committee member and life member Len Sherriff said the show was good value.

"It's got something for everyone," he said.

Ballarat MHR Catherine King will open the show about 1pm.

Admission is $7 for adults, $3 for children, $4 for pensioners and $20 for families.
