Activities abound for Australia Day

HEPBURN Shire residents will have the opportunity to embrace the spirit of Australia Day with a range of events planned throughout the region.

On January 25, at 7pm, a civic reception, including a citizenship ceremony, the Hepburn Shire Council Australia Day award presentations and rotary award presentations, will be held at the Daylesford Town Hall. The council's

Australia Day awards will include the community event award, citizen of the year award and young citizen of the year award. Australia Day celebrations will begin with a flag-raising ceremony at Mt Beckworth at sunrise at about

5.30am. There will also be a free pancake breakfast.

A flag lowering ceremony and barbecue at Collins Place, Clunes, will be held at 5.50pm. There will be a free barbecue and live entertainment by Endangered Species.

The Creswick Light Horse Troop will host a flag-raising breakfast at Park Lake Reserve at 8am. To attend the breakfast, residents need to collect a ticket before the event from the council's Creswick office. Creswick will also

hold an Australia Day colouring competition. Entry forms are available from the Creswick supermarket or laundromat.

Cricket matches will be held at the Creswick Park Lake Reserve throughout the day and the tennis courts and museum will be open.

Trentham Town Square will come alive at 11.30am with a flag raising and barbecue. Glenlyon will host a flag lowering ceremony and barbecue at the Glenlyon Reserve at 5.30pm.
