DANCER Jaclyn Van Workum will take centre stage this Sunday at the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony in Melbourne.
The 18-year-old from Daylesford, who started dancing when she was four with Kerry Moore in Ballarat, is the only amateur dancer among the 14 jazz dancers in her group at the ceremony.
"I will be dancing on the presentation stage where all the athletes get their medals and where the band plays," Ms Van Workum said.
Ms Van Workum had to go through three auditions in Melbourne to dance at the Games.
"The last audition was the hardest but I got through. It might be the start of a career," she said.
Ms Van Workum could not say too much about her performance except that she would be dancing for about five minutes.
"I've had about seven rehearsals in Melbourne," she said.
The quietly-spoken dancer said dancing was a way of expressing herself. "I just love dancing. It's a way of letting go of stress," she said.
She trains up to three times a week and has performed in Ballarat Shines, South St and Rock Eisteddfods.
The closing ceremony will be at the MCG on Sunday, March 26, at 7.30pm.
