$1.3m paves way for better roads in Hepburn Shire

29 Jul, 2008 12:45 PM
HEPBURN Shire roads will be among those to benefit from a $5.7 million package.

Ballarat East State Labor MP Geoff Howard said $1.3 million would be spent in the shire on the Midland Highway north of Sharp Road coming into Creswick, the Creswick-Newstead Road coming into Smeaton and the Midland Highway at Corinella Creek coming into Daylesford.

"With increased traffic flow on these roads, including increased use by freight transport, it is important that our roads are maintained to improve traffic safety," Mr Howard said.

"These projects will be delivered to make our roads safer and support regional development in communities including those in Hepburn Shire."

Funding for the shire includes: $759,000 for road rehabilitation on Midland Highway, north of Sharp Rd; $427,000 for road rehabilitation on Creswick-Newstead Rd, near Smeaton; and $116,000 for bridge rehabilitation on the Midland Highway at Corinella Creek.

Ballarat projects include: $432,000 for road rehabilitation on Geelong-Ballan Rd at Ballan; $968,000 for road rehabilitation of the Midland Highway through Lethbridge; and $855,000 for safety improvements on Daylesford-Ballarat Rd from Pootila to Brown Hill.
